When you create a new NewsHunter document, you are presented with a default document that you can configure any way you desire. If you have not yet defined a news server, NewsHunter will automatically present you with the News Server window when you creat a new document.
Once you have defined at least one news server, you can begin using the new NewsHunter document. The first thing you may want to do is to save the document by selecting Save from the File menu. You can save your NewsHunter document anywhere you like, but for simplicity, it is suggested that you save your NewsHunter documents into the same folder as your NewsHunter application or into your Documents folder.
The only time you need to save you NewsHunter documents is when it is newly created. Once you have a NewsHunter document, any changes made are automatically saved to the database in real time. You can even change many of the options while your NewsHunter document is running and they will take effect almost immediately.
The next thing to do is to download the list of newsgroups from the news server if you have not yet done so. Before you can search for newsgroups, you have to build the list of newsgroups. Open the Newsgroup Manager and click on the Build Newsgroup List button. Once the list of newsgroups has been downloaded from your news server to your NewsHunter folder, the search function will be enabled.
The Newsgroup Manager is accessed by clicking on the Add... button in the Newsgroups section of your NewsHunter document.
If you do not want to download the list of newsgroups, you can still add newsgroups to your NewsHunter document manually. Click here for more information on how to add newsgroups.
Once you have added some newsgroups to your NewsHunter document, you are ready to begin downloading. Click the Start button and your NewsHunter document will:
You can easily modify the way your NewsHunter documents scan by opening the Options window and configuring the various setting. For example, say you do not want to scan an entire newsgroup before moving to the next newsgroup in the list. Perhaps you would like to cycle through each newsgroup, downloading only a few images each time. You may want to do this if you want to see a few images from each newsgroup. To do this, you would turn on Newsgroup Cycling.
To enable newsgroup cycling do this:
Once you have enabled newsgroup cycling, you NewsHunter document will scan newsgroups in the following manner after you click the Start button:
You can order the list of newsgroups any way you like by using the Up and Down buttons in the Articles section of your NewsHunter document.
If you have accounts on more than one news server, you can configure your NewsHunter document to not only cycle through the newsgroups, but to also cycle through the list of news servers as well. this enables you to download from all the newsgroups and all the news servers with a single click of the Start button.
To enable News Server Cycling follow the procedure below. If you only have an account on one news server, then you should not enable this option.
After you have enabled News Server Cycling, your NewsHunter document will now be able to download from one news server, move to the newxt news server in the list, download files from that news server, and, when the final news server has been processed, begin all over again at the first news server in the list.
Once you have enabled news server cycling, you NewsHunter document will scan newsgroups in the following manner after you click the Start button:
Deleting, or unsubscribing from newsgroups is easy. Simply click on the newsgroup name and click the Delete button. The newsgroup is removed from the list.
When you turn a newsgroup off, your NewsHunter document will not download files from it. If a newsgroup is on, your NewsHunter document will include the newsgroup when downloading files. turning newsgroups off is a good way to temporarily unsubscribe from the newsgroup and is easier than constantly deleting and adding newsgroups.
To select a news server click on the News Server menu in the News Servers section of your NewsHunter document. You will notice that the list of newsgroups will be updated to display the newsgroups to which you have subscribed on the celected news server. This lets you easily use the same NewsHunter document to access several news servers.
If you want to add a news
server to the menu, select the New... command from the News Servers menu.
A dialog box will open where you can fille in the appropriate information.
