The ArcherPro Hot Folder

The ArcherPro Hot Folder is a folder that is checked periodically for new images. Any new images found are added to the end of the currently running slide show. The ArcherPro Hot Folder is located in the same folder as your ArcherPro application. You can create an alias of the ArcherPro Hot Folder and place it on your Desktop for easy access. You can also use the "Default Folders / Paths" preference to change the default location of the ArcherPro Hot Folder.

Enable Hot Folder preference added. This preference allows you to enable or disable the ArcherPro Hot folder. If you want ArcherPro to check the Hot Folder, enable this preference.

Note: When using the ArcherPro Hot Folder please remember that ArcherPro documents do not actually store the images themselves but rather they store references to the images you add. Files added to a slide show from the Hot Folder must remain in the Hot Folder. If you move the files out of the ArcherPro Hot Folder, any slide show that uses them will not be able to find them. If you have many images in the Hot Folder, you can move them to a different folder but you must remember to import them back into the slide show.

What's New in ArcherPro 3.1.0

The Background Menu - This version introduces the Background menu. This is where you can change the background color for each image individually. You can change the background color in three different ways. You can use the Color Picker window to select a color. You can also use the "." (Period) and "," (Comma) keys to adjust the background color in small increments.

Default Background Color Preference - ArcherPro 3.1.0 now implements a preference that lets you set the default background color. Any image that you do not specifically set a background color for will use the default.

What's New in ArcherPro 3.0.0

New Version Number - Because of confusion between ArcherPro and its less powerful brother Archer, we have decided to move ArcherPro to version 3.0.0.

Pan Image - When viewing images, you now have the option of panning. This is handy when the image is too large for your display. Normally when you drag an image, ArcherPro assumes you are dragging the image to another player or folder. To toggle between Panning and Drag and Drop, simply select Pan Image from the Play menu or hit the "G" key.

Tag Image - If you see an image you like, hit the "T" key or select Tag Image from the Play menu. A blue bar appears at the top of the image. To remove the tag, press the T key again. When you use the Export Slide Show command, you will be given the opportunity to export the entire slide show or only the images that you have tagged. Tags are saved with your ArcherPro documents.

Clear All Tags - To clear all the tags you have set, select the Clear All Tags command from the Edit menu.

Warn On Delete - Normally ArcherPro silently deletes the displayed image from your hard drive when you hit the "D" key. You can change this using the Preferences window. There is a new "Warn On Delete" preference that, when enabled, will display a dialog asking if you really want to delete the image.

Rendering Improvements - The last couple of releases have introduced bugs that caused scaling problems for some images. These have been fixed.

What's New in ArcherPro 1.1.1

ArcherPro 1.1.1 fixes a minor bug that caused the splash screen to report incorrect information. A clarification on the use of Destination Folders was also added to this Read Me file. Other than that, ArcherPro 1.1.1 is functionally identical to version 1.1.0.

ArcherPro 1.1 has a new feature called Destination Folders. By dragging folders into the Destination Folders window, you can configure ArcherPro to rapidly copy the displayed image to any of eight user-defined locations. For example, in the screen shot below, hitting the '0' key on the keyboard will copy the displayed image to the 'drag racing' folder. Hitting the '3' key will copy it to the 'Astronomy Images' folder, etc.

The Destination Folders window is easy to use. Simply drag some folders into it from the Finder, select an entry, and hit the desired key. It's as simple as that. When you hit any of the defined keys, the displayed image is copied to the associated folder.

To access the Destination Folder select Edit->Destination Folders. You can also use Command+K. And, finally, if you have a player window already open, you can simply hit the "K" key on your keyboard.

Hints and Tips How to Use Destination Folders

By dragging folders into the Destination Folders window, you can configure ArcherPro to rapidly copy the displayed image to any user-defined location.

The Destination Folders window is easy to use. Simply drag some folders into it from the Finder, select an entry, and hit the desired key. It’s as simple as that. When you hit any of the defined keys, the displayed image is copied to the associated folder. To learn how to fully exploit the capabilities of ArcherPro’s Destination Folders, be sure to click on the “?” button and read the helpful information.

To access the Destination Folders Window select Edit->Destination Folders. You must have an ArcherPro document open for the Destination Folders command to be enabled.

You can quickly sort through hundreds or even thousands of images quickly by assigning hot keys to various destination folders. Pressing the “Key” associated with the “Destination Folder” will copy the displayed image to the folder assigned to the key.

You can, with a single keystroke, send the displayed image to any folder on your hard drive. You can use the Default Set or you can create your own sets. Using sets lets you organize your destination folders. Each time you select a set from the Sets menu, you will see ArcherPro load in the destination folders and the hot keys you assigned to them.

You can expand the Destination Folders window to view more detailed information including the location of the selected folder and how many items it contains.

ArcherPro lets you quickly switch among the various Destination Folder sets you have created.

Assignment of a Hot Key is easy. Simply select an entry from the list as shown below and press the key you wish to assign to the folder.

As you can see below, when the user presses the “3” key, the displayed image will be copied to the “Artistic Impressions” folder.

In the image below, you can see that the user has assigned Hot Keys to each Destination Folder in the “Astronomy Images” set.

The Hot Keys “3”, “4”, “5”, “6”, “7”, “8”, “9”, and “0” can be assigned simply by pressing the desired key on your keyboard. The remainder of the Hot Keys must be assigned using the SHIFT key on your keyboard. This is required in order to avoid conflicts with Commands that are already assigned to hot keys. ArcherPro ships with certain keys assigned to certain commands. For example, pressing the “X” key toggles the Move/Copy option and the “T” key is used to tag or untag the displayed image.

In the image above, in order for the user to copy the displayed image to the “Venus” folder, they would have to hold the SHIFT key while pressing “V” on their keyboard. That's a lot of work and If you find yourself sorting many images as a matter of routine, holding down the SHIFT key can become tedious. ArcherPro allows you to “lock” SHIFT key to make using those hot keys easier. However, please keep in mind that when you lock the SHIFT key, you disable the commands normally assigned to those keys until you unlock the SHIFT key. To lock the SHIFT key simply select the command from the Edit menu.

Connecting to Digital Cameras

ArcherPro easily manipulates images on your digital camera. Destructive commands like “Delete from Hard Drive” will delete images from your digital camera as well. Use your cameras built-in “lock” feature to protect images from being accidentally deleted.

iPhoto likes to launch itself when you plug in a compatible digital camera. If you would prefer that iPhoto not launch when you connect a digital camera do this:

When you connect your digital camera it shows up on your Desktop just like any other gadget you plug in to your Mac.

Once OS X mounts your camera on the Desktop, you can import the images into an ArcherPro document just as if it were any other hard drive connected to your computer.

As you can see in the screen shot below, the user has imported some very bad photographs of what appears to be some small pets. At this point, one would presumably hit the "D" Key to remove this incredibly bad picture as quickly as possible. This would delete the image from the connected camera as well as the ArcherPro document.

You can then use the Destination Folders to sort the images. You can also use the File -> Export Images... command (you can also just hit the “E” key on your keyboard) to move the pictures from the camera to a folder on your hard disk as is illustrated in the screen shot below.

ArcherPro’s clean and simple interface makes it easy for you to quickly and efficiently manipulate images directly on your digital camera.
