Persistent Article Queues
- NewsHunter lets you queue articles you want to download. After you download the newsgroup overview, simply use the Queue Articles window to select the files you want to download. Then, the next time you click the Start button, NewsHunter will automatically begin downloading the files. However, unlike many news readers, NewsHunter remembers all the articles you have queued in all the newsgroups and on all the news servers you access. This lets you build queues for as many newsgroups as you like without having to worry about losing all your hard work because of something that disrupts your downloading activities.
Before You Select Articles to be Queued
- Before Queueing articles, you may want to update the newsgroup information. When you do this, NewsHunter will update the first article, the last article, and the total articles in the newsgroup. If you just added the news group or if you have not scanned the newsgroup in a few days, then updating the newsgroup info is probably a good idea. Follow the procedure below.
Procedure 17 - Updating Newsgroup Info
- Open a NewsHunter document.
- Select the newsgroup you want to update.
- Click the Start button.
- When you see your NewsHunter document download the overview, click the Stop button.
- The newsgroup information is updated.
- Repeat for each newsgroup you want to update.
Before you can select articles for the queue, you must first download the newsgroup overview. The newsgroup overview contains a list of all the articles in the newsgroup. To download the newsgroup overview follow the procedure below.
Procedure 18 - Downloading the Newsgroup Overview
- Open a NewsHunter Document.
- Select a newsgroup.
- Select Download Overview for Selected Newsgroup from the News Group Commands menu.

- Select the number of headers you want to download.
- Click the OK button.
- You will see your NewsHunter document:
- Connect to the news server.
- Select the news group.
- Download the XOVER.
- Close the connect to the news server.
Procedure 19 - Selecting Articles You Want to Download
- Once your NewsHunter document has download the overview (XOVER) file, you can then use the Select Articles window to queue the articles you want to download.
- If you open the Select Articles window and do not see any articles, be sure that you have first downloaded the overview file as described above.
- Once you have downloaded the overview file, choose the "Select the Articles You Want to Download..." command from the News Group Commands menu.
- The Select Articles window opens.
