Creating Error and Event Logs

You will find the Error and Event Log utility under the Utilities menu. If you have problems with NewsHunter, you can create an error and event log and send it to tech support.

After we receive the email, we will look into the problem.

  • If it is an operational problem, we will provide you with instructions on how to resolve the issue.
  • If it is a program bug, we will make every effort to fix the bug in the next maintenance release.
  • If it is a program bug that we are unable to track down, you may wish to run a version of NewsHunter customized to your specific problem. This customized version will contain expanded error and event information which may assist in fixing the bug. Customized versions of NewsHunter require a lot of effort to create and can only be provided when there is a reasonable expectation that we will be able to fix the problem.
  • If it is a machine specific problem that has something to do with that way you have configured you computer and peripherals, we will do our best to help you fix it.

The Error and Event Log window provides three tabs; Errors, Events, and Options. The Errors tab is reserved for displaying only errors. The Events tab displays detailed messages describing what NewsHunter is doing at any given moment as well as displaying any error messages. The Options tab provides access to the various settings.

Tip 1 - Sending Error and Event Logs to Tech Support

When creating an error and event log to send to tech support, be sure to have only one NewsHunter document open. The error and event log is global. If you have more than one NewsHunter document open, errors and events from all the open documents will be written to the log file. This will make it difficult to track down the problem.
